James N. Stone earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Studies from Brandeis University and his doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. In between, he lived and worked for several years in Greece. He was awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities (1989), held a teaching fellowship in the Creative Writing Department at Boston University, and subsequently taught Modern Greek as an assistant professor in the Classics Department at Boston University.
He has worked as a middle school guidance counselor and as a school psychologist at the high school level. In addition, he has been a child, adolescent, adult and family therapist, as well as a school and community consultant, at the Human Relations Services in Wellesley, MA for more than a decade. He has lectured and given workshops to teachers, administrators, parents, psychologists, and students on a variety of mental health topics including: Tourette’s Syndrome, Child and Adolescent Depression, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children, Teen Dating Violence Awareness, Psychological Trauma and Adaptation in the Schools After September 11, 2001.
At Weaver Center, Dr. Stone conducts initial evaluations and sees adolescents, families, couples, and adults for consultations and psychotherapy. He also administers comprehensive evaluations for adolescents and adults. He enjoys collaborating with schools and employs creative problem solving approaches in his consultations.
In his spare time, Dr. Stone pursues his abiding interest in Ancient and Modern Greek studies and has been publishing his translations of Ancient and Modern Greek poets for several years. His work has been awarded by the Translation Center at Columbia University (1986) and the Boston University Professor’s Program (1988). His most recent project is the creation of a Study In Greece summer institute for high school students.
